Like in human medicine, there are numerous health conditions affecting pets every day that require a blood transfusion in order for them to recover. Some of the life threatening health conditions that required a blood transfusion can be severe trauma, anaemia, blood clotting and bleeding disorders like snakebites and rat bait toxicity. These are something that could happen to your beloved pet.

Fortunately, we have an amazing blood donation program so we are able to have blood on hand in our hospital at all times. We reach out to our amazing registered blood donors to help us in times of need, and the good news is that your dog can become registered to help us save a life!

Our blood donor program involves your dog coming and spending a few hours with us to receive some well-deserved cuddles and a yummy meal once they have made their donation, you will also receive a $50.0 credit on your file to use for your pets next appointment with us.

To ensure the safety of the blood donor and the recipient, there are a few eligibility criteria for your dogs to become a donor:

  •   Healthy and in good physical condition
  • Friendly and calm temperament
  •  Aged between 1 and 7 years old
  • Minimum body weight of 20kg
  • Fully vaccinated
  • Heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention
  • Should not have a previously received a blood transfusion

If your dog meets the above eligibility criteria and you are wanting to help us save a life or two, call our friendly team on 07 4987 6800 to get your dog in our life saving blood donor program.
