As a team at the Maraboon Veterinary Surgery we are extremely proud to introduce to our beloved customers the triennial vaccine program. It is our goal to ensure that your pets remain 100% protected and receiving the very
best care.

But what has this got to do with the triennial vaccines?

With introducing the triennial vaccines into the clinic, we are still protecting your beloved pooch, just minimising the amount of injections they receive. Creating a more enjoyable experience for you and your pet.

How does the triennial vaccine work if my pet is not getting as many injections?

As the new vaccine program is designed to be more pet friendly they only required to be injected every third year, this protects them from the three core viruses being; Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus. This allows us to pass on a cost-saving strategy to clients and ensures that pets are only receiving the vaccines they truly need each year. Aside from this we will still need to see your dog every year for an annual health check and for them to receive their other vaccinations to cover them for Parainfluenza, Bordetella and heartworm.

What is the new vaccine schedule with the new triennial vaccines?

For puppies the vaccine schedule remains relatively the same where they receive their first at 6 weeks of age, second at 10 weeks of age and third at 14 weeks of age.  On the other end adults receive the following vaccines after completing their puppy vaccinations. With the triennial being administered every 3 years, their Parainfluenza
and Bordetella being administered every year alongside their heartworm prevention every year.

Why have we made the switch?

As it is the Maraboon Veterinary Surgeries main goal to provide the best care for you and your pets, and with studies in the recent years treatments have advanced greatly. Triennial vaccines have been used in major cities for a few years now, but only recently has the research demonstrated that this protocol is fully guaranteed in
high parvo risk areas, such as the Central Highlands. We have spent a lot of time and energy analysing the research and ensuring that this program has both your pet and you the owner, in mind ensuring this program safer, more cost effective and less invasive on your pet.
